So you think you can dance???

Yes, apparently my Uncle Garfield does think he can dance. This picture was taken on Saturday night of carnival. Garfield decided to do the robot. It was very amusing. We have video of it as well that will keep me laughing for years to come.
Now to discuss some real dancers, those people on "So You Think You Can Dance" are sooooo good. This is my guilty pleasure show of the summer. I just can't wait until Wednesday nights so I can watch it. Although I must say, they need to leave it on at the same time every week and stop changing it around!!!! Tonight will be the results show. My favs are Donyelle and Benji and Natalie and Musa and Ivan and Allison (did you see them last night?? They were sooo good). That doesn't mean that I don't like the rest of them, they are all really good. I think tonight may be the end of the line for Dimitri and Ashlee. Dimitri was not so good at the "pop" dancing last night.
Oh, and I saw "The Devil Wears Prada" last night with Carolyn and Michelle. I've been hearing lots of people say not so great things, but I loved it!!! I just finished the book a couple of weeks ago. They changed a lot of things from the book to the movie, but it was still a great movie. Anyways, I'm off to have breakfast on this, my last "vacation day" and then I'll be scrappin for the rest of the day.

Fun Page....

Finally got around to doing some scrapbooking. Everytime I got the urge over the last couple of days there was other stuff to be done, like laundry, cooking dinner, etc.... I'm really happy with the outcome of this one though.

It's Over

Just a quick post for now - just wanted to post that I'd survived the Lobster Carnival weekend. It was one of the best carnivals I can ever remember. Thursday night was girls night. I asked Christine and Dawn to be my bridesmaids and I'm so excited that they said yes. It just makes all the wedding planning so much more fun to know that they will be involved. We finished off the night at the tavern. Friday we went out on the boat and I got a really bad sunburn. Friday night we went to the beer gardens and saw Trooper. Saturday brought with it another boat ride - there were 24 of us on the boat this time. Saturday night was the parade and a trip to Alec Thoms pub. All in all, it was an amazing weekend. I consumed more alcohol over this one weekend that I did for in entire rest of the year. I've got hundreds of great pictures, but I'm still home in Pictou, so I can't post any until I get back to PEI. I think I'll head home tomorrow and enjoy the rest of my vacation there. More tales of the weekend to come - I promise.

Heading Home

I'm heading home today for the weekend for Lobster Carnival, probably won't get a chance to post until I get back on Monday or Tuesday.
Oh, and guess what..... I got gmail!!!! (Thanks Bevan!!) Loving it so far.

Forgot these movie and book reviews

Ok, so I've spent a fair amount of time in the past week at the theater and with my face buried in book!!! At the movies I saw:

The Lake House: this was a pretty bad movie. The whole concept is just soooo silly. And you have to concentrate soooo hard to figure out what the heck is going on, it was hard to just enjoy the movie.

Cars: this was a great movie. It was funny. I was pretty tired at the theater and it seemed a little drawn out come the end (maybe because it was soooo predictable as well, but what can you expect from a kids movie). It had some good adult humor parts in it, too.

Nacho Libre: another very funny movie. Not everyone will find this one funny though. It's written by the same people who wrote Napoleon Dynamite and is very similar in it's humor. It's silly funny stuff that I think will get funnier everytime you watch it. I was sooo surprised because Jack Black is in the lead in this movie, and there was not one other actor I have other seen before. Jack Black was as hilarious as always. Can't wait to get this one on DVD.

I also finished a couple of books:

Shopaholic and Sister: another great shopaholic book. I swear that Sophie Kinsella could write a million of these things and I would never get bored of them.

The Devil Wears Prada: this book exceded all my expectations. I was expected it to be good, but it was a great read. I finished it in about a week. I'll have to make another trip to the theater soon to see the movie!!!

My Vacation so Far...

Day 1: Friday - worked at the scrapbook store. It rained - really hard, and there was thunder and lightening.
Day 2: Saturday - slept in, did laundry, went to Charlottetown to see Two Hours Traffic and Joel Plaskett. When we came home, it rained, and there was more thunder and lightening.
Day 3: Sunday - had big plans for some Mini Golf, and perhaps a trip to the driving range with our clubs, and guess what..... it rained!!!!! And last night at around 12:30 there was more thunder and lightening!!!!!

So, weather-wise, my vacations not off to a great start, but that's ok, as long as I'm here at home I can at least scrapbook and make some cards. I think a lot of stuff is closed here today since the July 1st holiday fell on a Saturday, but I'll hopefully get some stuff that's been on my list for months crossed off. The laundry is all done, so I can pack for the trip home to Pictou for the weekend.

Oh, and the concert Saturday was sooooo much fun. Joel Plaskett put on a great show. We were in the 3rd row from the stage, and other than the big stick in the mud guy who stood right in fromt of me and didn't even seem to care that he was there and the girl to my right who kept hitting me in the face with her ponytail when she turned around, it was great!!! I didn't take my camera because sometimes I really hate lugging it around for the whole day, but I had my new camera phone. I now realize, however, that I can't figure out how to get the pictures transferred to the computer!! I know, it sounds like a simple task, but the computer just won't recognize the phone. I'll keep trying and hopefully figure something out; There is one of Bevan and I at the concert that I really like.

Too Long...

Wow, a half a month since I posted, I know, that's tooooo long. I have some good excuses, but won't bore you with them, let's just say we've been busy, not always doing things we wanted to be doing. But, guess what, I'm on Vacation now!!!! Yay, 2 weeks of doing whatever I want!!! Well, I'm going to take this opportunity to catch up on all the cleaning my house needs, as well as some scrapbooking hopefully. I shouldn't promise anything though, because Lobster Carnival is next weekend, and I've yet to figure out how long I'm going to be home for, so I may get nothing at all done, which would be fine too!!
This weekend is Festival of Light in Charlottetown. I'm disappointed that I missed last nights concerts: Matt Mays and Sam Roberts, but we're heading down this afternoon to see the Joel Plaskett Emergency - I'm pretty excited!!!
The pictures you see are of my garden and flowers before our rain storm yesterday. Things I've learned about gardens: 1. most flowers need more sunlight than I have provided. Never plant your garden on the side of your house that gets barely any sun and never plant it under a huge chestnut tree!! 2. never place your garden in a place where water from your roof will pour off, creating a huge trench in the soil!!! I guess you learn from your mistakes!! Maybe I'll try to fix up the soil tomorrow. Can't do it today because it's Canada Day and everything is closed!!
Had my last card class at the shop yesterday. I enjoyed doing them, but I must say, I'm looking forward to a break. Don't know how many Fridays I want to work at the shop over the summer, I think I may take a vacation from that until September as well.
Well, I'm off to get ready for our trip to Charlottetown.

Look what I have.....

Well, it's not really mine, I just get to have it in my house this weekend. It's a Canon Digital Rebel XT EOS. I don't know if I got all those letters in the right order, but it sounds good!! The camera belongs to Bevan's work, and it's his job to figure it all out over the weekend (good freakin luck!!!) It's great for us though, because we have been really wanting a new camera, and this was one of the models we were looking at, so we get a chance to try it out and get a feel for it to see if we like it before we buy one. One of my concerns about this camera is that it's a Canon, and everytime I get my picture taken with a Canon camera, I blink!!! I know, I sound CRAZY!!, but it's true. So, much to my dismay, I will have to have my picture taken a number of times this weekend to see if the theory holds true for this fancy-schmancy cameral as well. (I really hate having my picture taken, so I'm not looking forward to it). I found this great website that offers a free online photo course for beginners, so I'm going to try it out and see how it goes, I'm super excited.

In other news, yes, it's been 2 weeks since my last blog, but I have some good excuses.... for one, blogger was down the last time I went to post. When it finally let me in I typed up my post, added pictures, and then when I went to post it, the site went down again and everything got lost!!!! ggggrrrrrrrrrrrr. Needless to say, I walked away from the computer for the rest of the day. I haven't spent much time on the computer in the last couple of days. We started working at our new office on the 6th, and everything is computerized there, so I really don't want to even see computers when I get home.

Last weekend was my friend Denise's wedding in Cape Breton. It was great fun. I got to see my good old dental hygiene friends. The driving sucked, but it was worth it. Here's a picture of me, Alanna, Susanne and Denise. Denise looked great in her dress.

I updated our wedding blog today as well. We've now confirmed our ceremony and reception locations and our DJ. Not a lot else going on in terms of planning lately.

Lobster Carnival is getting close. I only have 2 weeks of work left, and then I'm on vacation for 2 weeks. Carnie will be great this year. Mel missed last year, so I'm sure she'll have to have twice as much fun this year to make up for it.

Anyways, I'm gonna get going now. It's waaaay past my bedtime and I have to teach card class at 10 tomorrow morning. I'm really looking forward to a weekend at home this weekend, and hopefully I'll have time to post more sometime over the weekend.

More Fun to Come

If the old saying that blondes have more fun is true, there should be lots of fun in my future - I'm a blonde again. Got my hair cut and colored this evening. I love going to my salon, love sitting there and chatting and drinking coffee. The woman who did my hair is getting married next Saturday, so we talked about all kinds of wedding stuff.

I got a phone call from my friend Denise tonight, too. She is getting married next Saturday (June 10th) in Cape Breton. I'm sooo excited to go and see all the girls from hygiene school who are going to be there. Hopefully I'll have some pictures to post afterwards. I have to remember my camera though, I've developed a bad habit of forgetting to take it when I go places.

Books, Books, Books

Well, I must admit, reading hasn't been high on my list of priorities lately. Reading seems to be one of those things I do in spurts. If I'm really into a good book, I do nothing but read for days. Lately, I've been really into scrapbooking, so reading has taken a backseat. I do kind of have 2 books on the go however:

  • I'm just under half way through "The Way the Crow Flies" by Ann-Marie MacDonald. I read "Fall on Your Knees" by the same author and thought it was great. I've had a slightly harder time getting into this one, but I refuse to give up on it!

  • I've just started "Shopaholic and Sister" by Sophie Kinsella. I'm really only a couple of pages into this one, but there is no doubt in my mind it will be a great book. I've read all of the other books from the shopaholic series. If you haven't read them, check them out, they are among the best books I've ever read.

There are soooo many books I've read in the past that I would highly recommend:

  • Anything from the "Harry Potter" series.
  • "She's Come Undone" and "I Know This Much is True" by Wally Lamb. These were both Oprahs Book Club selections in the past.
  • "Summer Sisters" by Judy Blume. Yes, I believe she is a childrens author, but this book was written for an older audience. It has a couple of weird parts, but what book doesn't? It was great - a great summer read.
  • "Angels and Demons" and "The DaVinci Code" by Dan Brown. Two more really great books.

I do hope to tackle "Memoirs of a Geisha" as soon as I get a chance. I hear it's pretty good as well. Please post any other suggestions for great books in the comments section, I'd love to check them out!!

Summer Plans

Saw this blogger challenge on Two Peas and thought it would be a fun one. It will be neat to predict my summer plans, and then to see how close they are to what I actually did once the summer is over!!

My Summer Plans:

  • Well, for starters, Pictou Lobster Carnival - an annual party at my house in Pictou. I always plan my summer vacation around this weekend. This year it falls on the weekend of July 6th-9th.
  • This is the first summer since we've moved to Prince Edward Island that Bevan has had weekends off. Over the last 2 summers he had to work every Saturday, so it really limited our ability to do much or go far over the weekend. This summer we plan to take in more of the great summer sites on PEI.
  • We also plan to go home more often over the summer. My dad just made a fishing boat into a leisure/party boat, so we plan to spend quite a few weekends lounging on that.

  • We did have plans to go to CKU-M in Boston this summer, but since the class list was posted last week, we have changed our plans about that. We're all a little disappointed, but it really was too much money to spend to take a bunch of classes we weren't all that thrilled about.

Well, I guess that's all that I can think of right off the top of my head. Not a lot of big plans, but I know it will be a great summer. We haven't seen much of our families over the last 2 summers, so we are really looking forward to spending more time at home.

The Good and the Bad

The Good - we saw X-men last night - Wow!!

The Bad - the doctor I saw yesterday, talk about poor bedside manner!!!

Let's start with the good. Bevan and I saw X-Men - The Last Stand at the theater last night. We spent the entire weekend before this watching movies. In preparation for this movie we had watched the first and the second X-Men as well. This was an excellent movie. Sooooo not my typical movie type. I was never a comic book reader. But I highly recommend this movie to everyone.
We actually spent our entire weekend this past weekend watching movies!! Here's a quick rundown:

The DaVinci Code - Hint: Don't go the the late show that only starts at 9:50!! We didn't leave until 12:30, so I feel this made the movie seem a little longer and drawn out just because I was tired. Other than that I really enjoyed this movie. I don't understand what all the bad reviews were about. I thought the movie followed very closely with the book, anything that was changed or left out didn't change the outcome. There were actually protestors standing outside the theatre when we went in, it was pretty funny. I just felt like saying "it is a book, fiction, no one is saying this is fact!!"

The Family Stone - I really enjoyed this movie. Loved the story. Yes, it's a pretty typical romantic comedy, but I like that kind of stuff.

The Ringer - Really funny. I think I felt guilty for laughing at first, but when I discovered that the whole movie is endorsed by Special Olympics, and that it's quite politically correct, I felt free to laugh and laugh. Watch it. Enjoy it.

Munich - Only watched the first half of this one or so, I didn't really see much point to it, maybe I fell asleep before all the really good stuff happened, so I don't think I should really bash it too badly.

Grandma's House - Can't find a link for this one. I had never heard of it before we rented it, it was Bevan's choice. Once again, I only watched the first bit. Not that it was bad, I guess I just wasn't in the mood. It has all of the people who are always extras in the Adam Sandler movies in it. Probably would have been OK if I had watched the whole thing.

OK, on to the bad I guess. I won't complain too much, just want to say that the doctor I saw yesterday was not nice!! He didn't introduce himself, barely let me get a word in to ask a question, shot down everything I had to say, and basically told me my hives have nothing to do with my kidney stones. I feel defeated and I feel like I'm no further ahead. I have to go for a bunch of bloodwork and other tests. I'm starting to think I'll just have to live with the hives and all the meds for a while longer. He was telling me about a med for stones, but most insurance companies won't cover it and you have to take it 4-5 times a day!! Doesn't really sound worth it to me.

Anyways, I'm off to enjoy my last unplanned vacation day (back to work tomorrow). I think I'll try to get some scrapbooking done. Have a good one.

On an Unplanned Vacation

Well, I haven't worked since Thursday. We're in the process of moving at work, from one space, to a much bigger, much more updated space. We stayed after work on Thursday and packed everything up. It's really hard to believe how quickly the space was transformed from a dental office to a big empty space. I stopped by on Saturday to check out the new office. It's big, and new. I'm sure unpacking things there and putting them away is going to take much longer than the packing up did. Well, today I was supposed to go in to work for 3 hours for training, and I got a call yesterday saying that things are not moving along at the expected speed, so no work until Thursday. It's been a long time since I had a day off through the week, and oh my, did I enjoy yesterday. I got up, had some great coffee, watched some morning TV, etc.. Then I had some errands to run. Then I went shopping!! I bought a skirt (white of all colors!!!), and some new shirts. Yesterday afternoon, I met with all the girls from work for supper. One of our co-workers is leaving us for a new position, and we will all miss her dearly. We stayed at the restaurant for almost 4 hours, just talking and venting!! It was a great time.

Today is my appointment with the specicialist in Charlottetown about my kidney stones. I'm not really going into it with high expectations. I've seen a specialist in Halifax before and all he told me was to drink more water, he wasn't much help. This time, I want to ask if it is normal that a 27 year old woman has had 6 or 7 kidney stones, and if it's not, is there some reason my body is prone to producing them. This has been my worst episode by far, because of the hives. Yes, I still have them. 4 months now. If I miss even one dose of medication I'm all spotty within hours. I know my remaining stone is quite small, so I doubt they'll do the sonic wave thing to get rid of it or anything, I'll have to wait and see I guess. I'll update when I get home.

I'm still here

I'll post again soon, I promise. Things are kind of hectic right now - work stuff, was home for the weekend and still haven't unpacked!!, etc... We made some progress on the wedding while we were home over the weekend, I'll fill in the details soon. By the way, did anyone see the 'Lost' finale????? OOOOOhhhh my goodness!! I'm more confused now than I ever was!!

Went Walking

Bevan and I just got back from a nice little walk along the Confederation Trail. We walked 4 km. Not a lot, but our first time, so well work up to more. I really need new sneakers though!! I could have walked for much longer had I not gotten blisters like 5 minutes into it!! So I guess my goal for Monday or Tuesday will be new sneakers, then more regular walking. This is a big step for me - I'm not a fan of exercise!!!

New Pages

I've been doing some scrapbooking today, here are my results so far:

Still hoping to do some more. I'm trying really hard to keep my scrapbooking room cleaner, it's easier to just sit down and get to work on something if there isn't crap all over the place. I always get more done when I don't have to clean up first.

The pancake breakfast yesterday was great. We went to a yard sale, but didn't buy anything at all. We got groceries. Today Bevan had a bowling event he had to go to for work. Tonight - Survivor Party - hoping it will be lots of fun. On that note, however, I should go get showered and dressed - yes, it's 3 PM and I haven't done that yet!!!

Happy Day

Well, it's Friday, which in itself, makes this day a great one. This week at work was excellent - not too stressful, yet busy enough to make the days pass quickly - everyone was really happy. Today was my day at the scrapbook store. We got a great shipment of Hero Arts stamps in on Wednesday, so I had lots and lots of great new stamps to work with for my card class today. The day flew by!! Carolyn and I made cards ALL afternoon, I'll have to steal them away from the shop for a few hours so I can take them home and scan them!! Then after work we went to the grocery store and I bought some delicious strawberries. And the grocery store is conviently attached to a liquor store, I got a bottle of wine. Then, to top it all off, I went downtown and bought some freshly caught (and cooked) PEI Lobster!!!!! I came home, opened my wine, cleaned my lobster and enjoyed it with some melted butter. YUMMY!!!!!!! Tomorrow morning we are going to a pancake breakfast. And I think I may like to take in some yard sales. Oh, and to top it all back, I got my engagement ring back today! (I took it to the jewellry store on Monday to be sized, and I've been lost without it ever since) Tomorrow afternoon will probably include some cleaning, which depresses me just thinking about it!! But then on Sunday night we are going to a 'Survivor' Party!! We are pretty excited about that. At 7:30 there's going to be a BBQ, and then there will be Survivor games, and I believe the finale comes on at 9:00. We were in a Survivor Pool this year. I was Misty - I got voted off pretty early on - I guess everyone saw poor Misty as a threat!! Bevan is Terry - he's still in it up until now. The odds are stacked against him, however. Everyone else who is left wants to get rid of him pretty badly, so it's hard to say how long he'll last. Anyways, the party will be fun, all of the 16 people who were in the pool are going to be there. Ooooooh, and I forgot, I got CROCS yesterday!!!! Bevan got me some chocolate brown ones in Charlottetown. I wore them all day today, they are super comfy. I'll post a picture of me in my crocs as soon as I get one!!! So, I guess I'll be going for now. I'll fill in the blanks on how the rest of the weekend actually went when I get a chance.

Sunday Morning

Well, it's once again my favorite time of the week. It's actually Sunday Afternoon now, but I just wanted to write about my weekend so far. Sunday morning is my favorite for a number of reasons. Mostly because there's never anything that has to be done. I also love Sundays becaus that's when I get to watch 2 1/2 hours of Coronation Street (yes, the British Soap Opera) and drink cups of coffee with no one at all to disturb me. It's too much fun. But now it's over for another week. Yesterday was also Nations Scrapbooking Day. To celebrate, the scrapbook store held a weekend crop at the Shipyard Market here in Summerside. It all started on Friday afternoon at 3 and went until 11 Friday night. Then we started up again at 9 on Saturday morning, and scrapped until about 5!! Everyone had a great time. I even got some scrapbooking done. Here are my finished products:

I won't take credit for the third one, I copied it from Lori. It was just way too cool. The picture is from a work trip we went on a couple of weeks ago. I took some pictures over the weekend, I'll post them as soon as they're uploaded.

Nothing else is new really. No new wedding plans yet. I'm planning on going home in May to confirm the Reception Venue and the DJ.

We're having a big old BBQ again this afternoon. The weather is beautiful and sunny again today, so we're going to BBQ up some ribs and chicken with all those yummy things that go so well with a good BBQ. Can't wait!!!

Weekend Over :(

It was a good weekend. I did some scrapping today, the results of which you see above. It was nice to be home and relax this weekend. Last weekend I had to go to Moncton for work, so I was really only here on Sunday. This weekend was nice and quiet. Yesterday we went to Charlottetown. Today we had a monster of a BBQ - we had steak, chicken kabob, hot dogs, coleslaw, rolls, mushrooms and onions and potatoes. We both ate waaaaay tooo much. That was around 2:00, needless to say, we didn't have supper. After dinner, we took a nap!! It was great. And after our nap we went for ice cream at St. Elenors Dairy Bar. The weather has been great. It's light out until shortly after 8:00 PM. It's been warm and sunny. I must say, it was a really good winter here on PEI. Only a couple of snow storms, not a lot of snow that stuck around for any length of time. And I can't even remember many days with that bitter cold wind chill.
I discovered today as well that I have to take more pictures. I really have to start carrying my camera around with me all the time so that I capture more of those everyday moments and special events so that I have more to scrapbook.
I also made a new blog header for our wedding blog this weekend. I'm pretty happy with it. It includes a picture of us at the beach, and it is made out of what I am planning on having as my wedding colors: brown and blue, with some deep coral accents.
And I passed another kidney stone on Wednesday!! It first hit me on Monday at work. The pain in my back was pretty bad this time but by 2 PM it was calmed down. When I got home the pain came back, so I took a couple of pills to numb the pain, and they knocked me out and relaxed me enough for the stone to move along a little. I didn't even need to go to the hospital this time!! I was a little uncomfortable for the next couple of days, but not too bad overall. I have an appointment with a urologist on May 30th, so I'm really hoping I can get to the bottom of these stones. I really don't think it's normal that a 27 year old woman has had 6 or 7 stones already!!
Anyways, I guess that's enough for now. Bevan's down stairs watching wrestling, but The Sopranos comes on in half and hour, so he'll just have to miss an hour of wrestling!!
