Medical Update and New Pages

Well, it's been over a week again, oops!! Oh well, I'll say I've been busy, which isn't really a lie. I went to the dermatologist about these silly hives on Wednesday (yes, I STILL have them!!). Turns out I have chronic urticaria (ie hives that have lasted for more than 6 weeks) and the doctor is pretty sure it is because of the kidney stones remaining in my kidneys. From what I can understand, until they are gone, I will probably have hives. I'm learning to live with the itching, the antihistimines are keeping it pretty much under control.

On the positive side of things, I've been having a great weekend scrapbooking. I've gotten 2 pages done so far, and I still have all day tomorrow!! Here's the progress I've made. It's great to have a good supply of stuff at home and it's great to be using up some supplies. I'm having a great time. Also found out that I'm able to go to the next crop weekend on May 5th and 6th. I was unsure for a while because of a work course, but things have changed and I couldn't be happier. The last crop weekend we had back in February was a lot of fun, there were 90 people there!! Hopefully this one will be even better.

Not much else new, we watched Chicken Little today - cute movie. Also, watched Just Friends through the week, it was pretty funny. There were lots of people in it from the show Corner Gas. Bevan and I started watching Corner Gas just this past year - it's a really funny show. It was great to see some of the actors in something else.

My Weekend So Far...

Great weekend so far. I worked at the scrapbook store on Friday. Had my regular Friday card class, this week we made two easter cards. Last night we watched Walk the Line. It was a great movie. So glad Reese Witherspoon won an Oscar for this movie.

Today I slept in until 8:15 - yes, that is sleeping in for me. Then when I got up I went to Walmart to get more bobbins to continue the organization of my ribbon that I actually started last night. Check this out, I'm pretty happy with it:

I used to keep my ribbon organized by color in jars. Now there are just over 200 different ribbons in these 2 containers, which take up way less space. I still have some ribbon on the original rolls on the back of my scrapbook room door, plus some that was too wide or too long to fit on the bobbins in these cases. I just love it when things are nice and organized. Also bought the latest issue of Stamp It at the store. I'm so addicted to scrapbooking and card making magazines it's not even funny. I actually saw this one there last night, but didn't buy it then because I couldn't remember if I already had it and had to check at home first!!

Other than that, the weekend has been pretty uneventful. I'm really itchy again tonight. I'm totally relapsing with my hives I think. I did miss a dose of medication this morning because I ran out, but I'll get back on track tonight. I don't know if that is making it worst or not. It's been soooo nice not to have anything major going on this weekend. It was a great day today too, really spring-like, barely any snow left again. It's hard to believe it's almost the middle of March!! Anyways, I'm going to go spend some time with Bevan. Saturday Night Live is a new episode tonight, although Bevan told me it was Natalie Portman and Fall Out Boy, but I just checked and am disappointed to find out he was wrong!!! I was really looking forward to Fall Out Boy, I love "Dance, Dance". If you've never seen the video for this song, it's great. I guess that while I'm on the topic of music and Bevan I should thank him for not letting me listen to the crappy stuff I would probably be listening to if I wasn't with him. He pretty much knows what I will and will not like, and he won't let me just listen to something once and judge it. He puts all kinds of new songs on CD's in the car and knows that by the time I hear them 3 or 4 times I'll be singing along just loving them, regardless of my first impression. Thanks, Bevan!!

New Cards

Just wanted to post 3 new cards I made tonight. Still feel blah about work, plus I have to miss the upcoming Scrapbook Retreat Weekend - that makes me pretty cranky, too. Oh well, tomorrow will be better!!

I am a "Woo hoo itchy woman "

For those of you who are totally confused, those are the lyrics to a song by the Eagles, well, almost. It is supposed to be witchy woman, but this morning, when I woke up to a new batch of hives I changed the lyrics and started singing "Itchy Woman". That's right, I have more hives. I realize I never posted the pictures of my face from my first bout with hives. The first picture is what I looked like on Friday, February 17th, and the second picture is what I looked like on Saturday, February 18th. It all started in January before my kidney stone, and I've had hives ever since, much worse at some times than others. Today, my arms are covered in welts, as is my stomach and back. Still no idea what is causing it. Still taking 5 medications to try to keep them under control. I'm off to see a dermatologist in Moncton on the 22nd, hopefully I'll get to the bottom of all of this, but I somehow have my doubts.

In more exciting news, Bevan and I bought "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" on DVD this evening. It's a great movie, based on an even better book. Love these books. Can't wait until the 7th (and last) book, but sad that it will be all over after that!!

I had a yucky work day today. I was on Two Peas before work today, and it really made me want to just stay home and scrapbook all day. I should have done just that. It would have been a much better day. Other peoples scrapbook pages really inspire me to scrapbook. It's soooo great. I really wish I could just scrapbook for a living. Maybe that can happen someday, but for now I'll just have to keep working as a dental hygienist.

Anyways, I am going to go scrapbook now, maybe it will make me feel better!!

Party Weekend

Well, we went to Sussex this past Saturday for my uncle Garfield's surprise 40th birthday party. His birthday is actually March 9th (the same day as my mom's 50th!!). So at around lunch time on Saturday we headed out for New Brunswick. We stopped at Payless here in Summerside first, where I bought some great sneakers. Then we were on the road. We stopped at the Champlain Mall in Moncton first. It was pretty busy there, or it seemed busy to us anyways, but I guess when you haven't been to a real mall in months, it's gonna seem busy regardless. That's one bad thing about living here on PEI, really crappy malls!! So, we only bought a few things in Moncton. I got some Olive Oil Body Butter at The Body Shop, I love that place!! We don't have one here on the island, so I really stock up when I get there!! We left the mall to head for Sussex. Well, we got slightly lost, had to stop to ask for directions at a Petro Canada, and took twice as long to get there as we should have, but we made it. We got to Garfield and Kathy's house and waited with everyone else for Garfield, Kathy and the kids to get back from the movies. We surprised him when they walked in, and the party began. It was lots of fun. Mom just got back on from a vacation in Mexico, and she brought Melanie and I some sombreros, which go modelled by many people throughout the evening. Frankie had a great time, but passed out before the night was over. I've posted some pictures of the festivities here. All in all it was a good weekend. Garfield got quite a shock when we all yelled "surprise", even though I think he was suspicious about the party. I think Bevan had a good time, too, although he did have an unfortunate run in with a cat named Slate. You can read about it here. Check it out, it's a pretty funny story.

Wow...2 days in a row!!

2 posts in 2 days, this has to be a record for me. Not much to say today, it's only early though. I did some scrapbooking last night. Bevan had a meeting in Charlottetown and didn't get home until 10:30, so I was free to scrapbook my heart out. I scrapbooked one page of Frankie (I love scrapbooking that cute puppy!!) and I made a card for one of the women from work. I also got my second card done for my class this morning. I'm off to the scrapbook store today for a day of class teaching, paper picking out, and hopefully, more scrapbooking!! That's it for now, off to shower and get ready for work.

Happy LOVE Day

Just wanted to say Happy Valentine's Day to everyone, especially my sweetie, Bevan. We made cards for each other, and we're going out for dinner, too.

I'm a BAD BLOGGER

I know, I know, it's been FOREVER since I last updated my blog. But I have some really good excuses, I swear. Lets see, where shall I begin. I guess it all started on a Wednesday evening, when my left upper lip swelled up to the size of a peanut M&M (yes, peanut!!! those plain M&M's are pretty small!!). It swelled up really quickly, I took some Benadryl and went to bed, and in the morning the swelling was gone. Along with that, all week I hadn't been feeling the greatest, so I had made a doctor's appointment for Friday. So, Friday AM (Jan 27th) by the time I made it to the doctor, I was in really bad pain, I was throwing up, etc... The doctor sent me right over to the hospital, where they hooked me up to IV, gave me some drugs, took some blood, etc. I had an x-ray and a CT scan, and finally found out that the culprit was a kidney stone!!!! I've had 3 of these before, so I wasn't surprised but was very disappointed!! So, by supper time they sent me home to wait out the passing of the stone. On Saturday I woke up again to a huge swelling on the right hand side of my face. Still no passed stone. The swelling in my lip and cheek was gone down by Saturday evening. All in all, the next week was pretty uneventful. Finally on the next Saturday (Feb 4th), I passed my kidney stone. It was HUGE compared to any of my past ones. So, for now the kidney stone issues are over, but in the CT scan they found out there is another stone in each kidney, yuck!! In the meantime, on Friday evening (Feb 3rd) I started noticing hives all over my body. The hives continued, I went to the doctor again on Thursday, he gave me some antihistimines and told me to watch the hives. In the past week I have had my lip swell up twice more, my hands have swollen up, and I've had swellings on my feet that made it feel like I was walking on marbles and this morning I woke up with my eye swollen half shut!! I went to the doctor again today. He's putting me on prednisone for a week to clear up these hives, and then in a week I have to go back and see him to see if we can't get to the bottom of all this!! Anyways, sorry for all the complaining, but now you really can see that I have a good excuse for my non-blogging!!
Oh, and I forgot to mention that my birthday happened in there as well!! (on the 8th), and I got my hair done too!! (pics to follow, I promise).

Bliss

I'm sooooo happy. I've just scrapbooked my first 11 x 8 1/2 page. It was sooo different from 12 x 12, but I'm thrilled with the outcome. Everything I used, except the ribbon, which is from Chatterbox, is from the new Neopolitan line from K & Co. I so love this line, I love the colors and the patterns, and these rub-ons are awesome. I'm off to do some cooking and laundry (yuck), then more scrapbooking. Stay tuned!

Favorite Movies

I was just over perusing Bevan's blog and he posted a list of his favorite movies of all times. It was an interesting list, but it confirmed that he and I have pretty different taste in movies. I must admit it, I LOVE the typical "chick flick". If I had to choose only 4, this is how it would go (in no particular order, of course):

1. Sweet Home Alabama. This is the typical girl movie. We all knew from the very beginning who the girl would end up with, but our eyes were glued to the screen anyways.

2. 13 Going on 30. I have to admit that before this movie I was not really a huge fan of Jennifer Garner, but this movie changed my opinion. You've just gotta love all the great 80's references, especially the scene where everyone at the party does the "Thriller" dance.

3. Napolean Dynamite. This one is not a chick flick, but you've gotta love a story about a geek who, against all odds, has something good happen to him. The first time I watched this movie, I thought it was the dumbest thing I'd ever seen, but as you all know, you have to watch it more than once, and the more you watch it, the funnier it gets. The catch phrases from this movie are now part of my daily conversations. Here is a great link to the Napoleon soundboard where you can hear the characters repeat their sayings over and over and over.

4. Zoolander. Not really sure how I stumbled upon this one, or why I love it soo much, but it makes me laugh everytime!! I could watch it over and over and over, and I have!!! Bevan and I love it so much that when we moved in together and merged our movie collections, we actually kept both of our copies, just knowing that we are eventually going to wear one out!!

I just feel like I'm leaving out soooo many all time greats. I'm also a huge fan of The Wizard of Oz, Return to Oz, Mary Poppins, The Sound of Music, Adventures in Babysitting, etc., etc. My favorite thing to do is turn on any one of these movies in my scrapbook room and just sit and make a card or do a layout. Anyways, enough blogging, I'm off to the grocery store (super craving Lasagna lately), then back here to scrapbook!! Have a great day!!

Went to a Card Class today

I stopped by the scrapbook store today to visit. Michelle was having a card class and 3 people didn't show up so Carolyn and I sat down and made the cards. It was fun. Here are the finished products:

Not much else new. Mel has started posting her stuff on Two Peas. You can check it out here. After class today I'm inspired to create!! So, off I go. I'll post any progress I may make!

Why does that happen!?!?

Why is it that on the weekends, when I have absolutely nothing to do the next day and I don't have to be out of bed at any time in particular, I fall asleep at 10 pm????? I just can't keep my eyes open. And then, on the nights when I actually have to get up for work the next day I can't get myself to bed?? That vacation just did me in. I'm not used to this schedule thing anymore. It hasn't been an extremely productive weekend. I still have a massive pile of laundry that has to be done. I have some pictures that I just got developed that I'd really like to scrapbook. The house needs to be cleaned. But I did get my cards made for the Valentine's Day swap I'm hosting at the scrapbook store. Here is what my card looks like. I used the same design I used on a couple of Christmas cards I made this year. The papers are all Heidi Grace Pocket Scraps. This is really awesome paper. I've seen lots of people buying it at the shop, so there should be some really cool cards produced.
I think I'll get going now and try to get some stuff done. It's just sooo hard to clean when you could be scrapbooking.

Changes

As you'll see, some changes have been made to my blog. Thanks to Bevan, I now have a new blog header. But as I added the header and changed the template, I lost my links, etc... and at this point, I'm kinda frustrated, so they'll be back within the next couple of days!! Thanks for looking.

It's Friday

Well, it's finally Friday. This was my first full week back at work, and my goodness, did it seem like it lasted FOREVER!!! A month's vacation is wonderful, but it is soooo hard to get back into the swing of things. I'm off to the scrapbook store today for my regular day of work there, although I never think of it as work, because I get to do what I love there. Today is my first class there. I'm doing a little card class on Friday mornings. Just a couple of cards teaching rubber stamping techniques. Lots of fun for me. I had a productive week in terms of cardmaking. Here is some of what I got done:

The "Smile" card is my favorite. I love the bright colors and the buttons!! I got some pictures back yesterday, so hopefully I'll get to do some fun scrapbook layouts in the next few days. Michelle has sent me her pictures from our trip to NYC. She got some great pictures, and some that I don't have. Everytime I see those pictures it inspires me to scrapbook. I've gotten 3 NYC pages done so far I think.

In other news: I miss Frankie!!! She is just the cutest puppy ever. Mel said she is growing soooo fast, and I just feel like I'm missing it. I've decided I need a little weiner dog of my very own, but we just can't get one where we live now. No pets allowed :( Plus, I can't get one until I think of a clever weiner dog name like Mel has: Frankie "The Tank" Chickenweiner Burton. Anyways, better get going!! Gotta get to work!

Happy 2006!!

Just wanted to say Happy New Year. It's been a while since I posted again, but it's been busy. Christmas is sooooo busy. No time to enjoy things, too busy buying those last minute gifts!! Although it was very busy, it was great. I got soooo much stuff. Let's just say it was a good thing that Bevan and I both had our cars at home!! My car was full with Christmas stuff. I got a new set of pots and new dishes. I got a sewing machine and some scrapbooking stuff and a new Columbia jacket. They also got me Seasons 6 through 10 of "Friends" on DVD and "Lost" Season 1 on DVDPlus lots and lots of other stuff from my parents. Mel gave me a great French Press and a scrapbookable travel coffee mug (I must say, this is the perfect gift for me!!) Bevan gave me soooo much good stuff. He always manages to know just what to get me!! He gave me Super Mario Dance Dance Revolution (which is waaaay too much fun!!). He got me some distress inks, some prima flowers in cute little bottles, a stamp, and a great K & Company scrapbook. Bevan also got me "The Wizard of Oz" collectors edition, and the Adventures in Babysitting DVD. There was more too, but way too much to list. All in all, it was a good Christmas. Frankie had a great first Christmas and really enjoyed opening her Christmas presents, which she managed to sniff out quite well.
Bevan and I headed back to PEI on Friday (the 30th). The weather was warm, so we knew we wouldn't hit any snow and decided it would be the best day to head back. We've been here for 3 days now and our house is very slowly getting put in order. We had to buy a new shelf to house our DVD collection. For New Years we had a wonderful, relaxing, quiet evening.
Today my goal was to start simplifying. I have sooooo much crap that has to be weeded through. We already have a half of a garbage bag of papers to be recycled. I have about half of the laundry done. I've yet to get to the scrapbooking room, and that is quite a job in itself. I would love to get it all done before tomorrow so I can enjoy my last day of my month long vacation, but that's probably wishful thinking. I'm trying to stay optimistic though!! Anyways, I'm not really getting anything done while I sit here typing, so I'm going to get off my butt and get back to work. Pictures to follow soon!!

Short Update

Not much new over the last couple of days. Mel got here on Sunday with Frankie. She's been quite the little rascal (Frankie, not Mel). She goes through spells where she's all calm and cuddley, and then 2 seconds later she's running around and around and squeezing herself under the couch. Pretty much all Mel and I have been doing is scrapbooking. We moving the kitchen table into the living room. Here are the products of my hard work!!

Bevan's new job seems to be going well. He found out the other day that he doesn't have to work between Christmas and New Years, so we plan to stay at home in NS for the whole time. We'll see how things go I guess. Anyways, I'm off for now.

I know, it's been forever!!

Well, I'm back. It's been a really long time since I've blogged. I guess that's what happens when you're on vacation. So, where should I start?? I guess the beginning would be the best place. December 1st was my last day of work for an entire month. It was a pretty great day, the anticipation of a long vacation made me pretty happy. That was a Thursday. I spent the day on Friday at the scrapbook store with Carolyn putting away a great big order of great stuff, mostly Christmas papers, etc... Bevan and I headed home on Saturday. Mom and I went to the mall on Saturday evening to get stuff for the new puppy we were getting for Mel. This is the first time I've mentioned this because it was a surprise!!! She's always wanted a weiner dog, so we decided we'd get her one for when she came home from Australia. Mom and Dad went in November and picked the puppy out. She was born on October 1, 2005. These are some pictures of the puppy they chose on the day they went to pick her out.

So, on Monday the 5th of December we headed out to the airport a couple of hours early. We stopped at the dog breeders house and picked up the puppy. There were soooo many cute puppies there and on the way out the door I told them I'd be back to get a puppy of my very own as soon as I could. We can't have pets at the apartment where we live now, so I guess I'll have to wait a while longer. Here is a picture of Frankie wrapped up in the quilt that Mom made for her(at least that's what we were calling her at this point, Mel didn't even know about her, so we weren't sure what her name would actually be).

Mel and Mitch's plane arrived a few minutes early. We all hugged her. It was great to see her. Then we gave her the basket with the puppy in it and she was sooooo excited.
The next few days were spent catching up, playing with the new puppy, and sipping barrels of coffee through the Tim Tams Mel had bought at the duty free shop in the Australian airport. On Thursday we went to Halifax to do some Christmas shopping. We had a great day. On Friday we had a bit of a snow storm. On Saturday night we had a welcome home party which included lots of great Karaoke. The more drinks we had, the better we thought we were and the more we sang. It was great. When Bevan and I were leaving the party, which was in the garage, and heading up to the house, we were walking through the Christmas Tree Lot in the garage driveway, and the police stopped us. I think they thought we were going to steal a tree. I told the officer "I'm with them" motioning behind me to the garage, not realizing that from the road it looked like I was motioning to no one at all!! On Tuesday, Bevan and I headed back to PEI. Bevan got a job (yay) so we headed back so he could get to work. Since we've been back things have been pretty relaxing and quiet. Wednesday brought another snowstorm. On Friday I worked at the scrapbook store. Then on Friday night we went to Carolyn's house for an evening of Pizza, Mario Dance Dance Revolution and Mad Gab. We had a great time. On Saturday night we went to a Community Christmas Concert at the Jubilee Theatre here in Summerside. It was pretty good. Over the weekend I've also finished a great scrapbook layout from our trip to CKU.
Now, here it is, Sunday morning. I've watched my Coronation Street, had my coffee - minus the Tim Tams :( and now I'm going to go shower so we can pick Mel up at the ferry for a few days of heavy scrapbooking!!

One more week!

Well, one more week of work (4 days to be exact) and then I'm officially on vacation until January 3rd!!! I've only taken a couple of weeks worth of vacation for the rest of the year, and with Mel coming home on the 5th I figured it would be great to have the whole month of December off to catch up with her, catch up on my sleep, catch up with my scrapbooking!! I'm pretty excited. I feel like I'm following in my father's footsteps!! For quite a few years now he's been taking the entire month of December off. I always wondered what the appeal was. For me it's never really Christmas until I'm done of work or school though. So for the past few years it hasn't seemed like Christmas until December 23rd. This year I get to be excited for a whole month!!!
It's been a fun and interesting weekend. I worked at the scrapbook store on Friday. Then on Friday night Bevan and I went to get some groceries and then stopped at Pizza Delight for yummy desert! I had the brownie skillet (a brownie warmed on a skillet in the oven, topped with french vanilla ice cream and whipped cream, YUM!!) and Bevan had the apple skillet (the same as above with apple crisp instead of a brownie.)
On Saturday, Carolyn had a Christmas open house at the scrapbook store. It was loads of fun, lots of people stopped by to make cards and tags and take advantage of a great sale!! We had apple cider and coffee and cookies. Then I went to Pizza Delight with Carolyn and Michelle for lunch. I should own shares in that place!! On Saturday afternoon, Bevan and I went to Charlottetown. I got some ideas for Christmas gifts and I bought a sweet Napolean Dynamite talking keychain. I had every intention to give it to someone as a gift, but then decided no one else could possibly enjoy it as much as I do!!
At 5 this morning Bevan and I were both wide awake for some strange reason. We got up, got a drink, went back to bed and put the Elf DVD in. I totally forgot how much I loved that movie. It's definetly a holiday favorite. Today (Sunday) I got up and watched my 2 1/2 hours of Coronation Street. Then we put together the new shelf I bought for my scrapbooking room. And this afternoon we went to the grocery store!! Today is the first of 4 Sundays before Christmas when we have Sunday shopping here on PEI. It's great, I wish we had it year round. After that we came home and super cleaned out the fridge and then made homemade pizza. Then we found Babes in Toyland on TV!!! It was one of Mel and my favorite movies when we were young. In case you've never seen it, it has Keanu Reeves, Drew Barrymore and a couple of other relatively unknown actors. It's such a great movie. During the movie we put up some Christmas decorations and made apple cider.
I guess all in all it's been a really good weekend. We were pretty busy and I still have TONS to do before I'm ready to go home. Guess I better go and actually get some stuff done!!
